French Jewry Mourns Passing of Archbishop of Paris; Aided Jews During Nazi Occupation

Jews throughout France joined today in morning the passing of Emanuel Cardinal Suhard, Archbishop of Paris. Cardinal Suhard strongly fought the Nazi persecution of Jews during the occupation of Paris and personally aid hundreds of Jews to escape death at Nazi hands.

Dr. Julien Weil, Chief Rabbi Paris, in a statement today, said that the Jews of Paris will always gratefully remember the help given them by the late Cardinal during the German occupation.
