Rabbis joined religious leaders of other faiths here today at solernn services at the Tomb of the Unknown Jewish Martyr, where commemorative rituals were conducted honoring the memories of Jews deported by the Nazis from France to extermination camps.
Throughout the country, similar services were held. Today was declared “National Deportation Day” in memory of the hundreds of thousands of French residents sent to their deaths from their homes in this country during the German occupation.
Catholic priests and Protestant ministers participated in the commemorative procession to the low-ceilinged crypt of the Tomb of the Unknown Jewish Martyr, After wreaths were laid in memory of the martyrs, the clergymen proceeded to the Memorial Museum, where an exhibit was opened under the title “Genocide of Jews Under the Nazi Regime.”
