The Jewish Telegraphic Agency bureau here has set up its own “postal service” to deliver the French-language Daily News Bulletin to subscribers in spite of the French postal strike. The JTA has formed a seven-man motorcycle team which picks up the Bulletin at JTA at 5 a.m. and delivers it to some 1300 subscribers in central Paris. The seven messengers have all been equipped with red Hondas midget motorcycles capable of squeezing through the heavy Paris traffic.
Many JTA subscribers phone to say that they receive the Daily News Bulletin in time for breakfast. The JTA, as far as it is known is the only publication or newspaper delivered because of the total postal strike which has frozen all deliveries. The JTA hopes to expand its special delivery service to include certain Paris suburbs such as Sarcelles in northern Paris where several hundred subscribers reside.
Bulletin Director Adam Loss wrote to all Par is subscribers–the letter also delivered by special JTA messenger–to say that “the international situation and communal Jewish life in this country make it mandatory that we continue to inform you on a daily basis.” (By Edwin Eytan)
