If the French delegation at Lake Success abstains from voting on the question of partition, the Quai D’Orsay indicated last night, “it would be a serious blow to the sentiments of approximately 1,000,000 Jews in the french Union, and to the confidence that millions of Jews in other countries have in the traditional justice of France,” Marc Jarblum, president of the French Zionist federation, said today.
He expressed the hope that the Foreign Office announcement does not represent the final decision of the government, and charged that failure to vote for partition would run counter to the opinion of the French people, “who have shown so much understanding and sympathy for the suffering Jewish people and their national aspirations,” ?. Jarblum added.
