Announcement was made last night at the annual meeting of the Jewish Conciliation Court at Federation Building, 71 West Forty-seventh street, that the Friedsam Foundation has made a contribution to the upkeep of the court.
This contribution, said Rabbi Israel Goldstein, re-elected president #f the court, “will enable us to increase the number of our sessions and to strengthen our social service department.”
In his presidential report, Rabbi Goldstein said “one may look forward to a step beyond adjudication, namely, conciliation.”
“The ideal court of justice,” he said, “should go beyond justice—to the curing of antagonisms wherever possible, and the substitution of good will for ill will, wherever feasible.
PURPOSE EXPLAINED
“When both the complainant and the defendant leave the presence of the judges, not only satisfied with the decision, but mollified in their antagonisms, because of the efforts of the judges, then the court has fulfilled its highest purpose.
“Many such instances occur in the experience of our tribunal. In this respect, too, we offer our experience and our technique to the community as a whole.”
In the report of Louis Richman, executive secretary of the court, it was revealed that 1934 was the busiest ##ar in the history of the court. During the year 665 cases were presented for adjudication, while 144 cases were actually tried and disposed of at the seventeen open sessions of the court.

Among the sixty-five judges were: Bernard S. Deutsch, Rabbi Mordecai M. Kaplan, Mrs. Justin Wise Tulin, Max D. Steuer, Rabbi David de Sola Pool, Judge Jacob Panken, Nathan D. Perlman and others.
