Assurances that Turkish-Arab alliances will not mean any disruption of Turkish-Israel friendship are continued in editorials in a numbers of influential Turkish newspapers, including papers speaking for group generally in conflict on domestic issues.
In a front-page editorial, the independent “Milliyet” insists that Turkish-Arab rapprochement will guarantee Israel against any attack by the Arab states. Nihat Erim, a leader of the Republican Party, currently in the opposition, wrote in “Halkci” that the government’s policy is the same as the Republican’s policy when they were in power, and that “Israel’s fear is without foundation.”
