A two-day session of the Western States Conference for the United Jewish Appeal opened here yesterday at a large meeting attended by more than 600 Jewish leaders. One hundred percent support of the UJA national drive for $100,000,000 for refugee, overseas and Palestine needs was pledged.
Speakers included Eddie Cantor; Rabbi Jonah Wise, co-chairman of the UJA; Command Joshua L. Goldberg of the Third Naval District; Saul Elgart, JDC director in Germany; Rabbi Edgar F. Magnin of Los Angeles; and Judge Isaac Pacht of Los Angeles. Other speakers were Capt. Robert Gamzon, French partisan leader; Reuben Rosnik, wartime JDC director in Italy; and Leo Herman, secretary general of the Keren Hayesod.
