Participation of local Jewish welfare agencies in the national defense program will be one of the major subjects of discussion at the General Assembly of the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds in Atlanta, Feb. 1 to 3, Edward M.M. Warburg, chairman of the program committee, announced today.
Delegates from local federations, welfare funds and community councils in the United States and Canada will consider how best to utilize the services of their agencies to meet local needs growing out of the Selective Service Act and the expending defense industries, Warburg asserted.
The delegates will also discuss possibilities of coordinated action on a national scale in several other fields. They will concern themselves with prospects for joint fund-raising and planning by the national civic-protective agencies, increased cooperation among the various tuberculosis institutions and development of a coordinated national budgeting process for welfare funds.
The delegates, Warburg stated, will also have before them a proposal advanced by President Sidney Hollander calling for the establishment by the Council of an advisory budgeting service to help welfare funds in making allocations to the overseas and refugee agencies, now that the United Jewish Appeal for the three major agencies in this field has been dissolved.
