Funeral services for Rabbi Edward L. Israel who died Sunday in Cincinnati at a meeting of the executive board of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, will be held here tomorrow at the Har Sinai Congregation where Dr. Israel served as Rabbi for many years prior to his resignation a few months ago to accept the office of executive director of the UAHC in Cincinnati.

Messages mourning the death of Rabbi Israel were sent to his family and the Har Sinai Congregation by various Jewish organizations in all parts of the country. Judge Louis E. Levinthal, in behalf of the Zionist Organization of America, emphasized that “in the sudden and untimely passing of Dr. Israel, the Zionist movement lost one of its most ardent workers and eloquent champions.” Rabbi Israel was a member of the national executive committee of the ZOA.

The League for Labor Palestine, of which Rabbi Israel was vice-president, in a message pointed out that he was an ardent admirer of the Palestine Labor Federation, and “combined a deep understanding of contemporary, social and economic problems with a high moral sense in the best Jewish tradition.” The General Jewish Council, expresing sympathy to his family, said that “as president of the Synagogue Council, as a liberal labor mediator, and as an indefatigable worker in the American inter-faith movement, Rabbi Israel made a great contribution to the better understanding between man and his fellow-men.”
