Funeral services were held yesterday for Mrs. Carrie P. Schanfarber, wife of Dr. Tobias Schanfarber, dean of Chicago’s rabbinate. Mrs. Schanfarber died on July 25 after an illness lasting two months. She was 62 years old and for many years had been a leader in Jewish civic and philanthropic circles in this city.
Conducting the funeral services yesterday were Rabbi Felix Levy, of Chicago, her nephew; Rabbi William Rosenau, of Baltimore, a classmate of Dr. Schanfarber, who performed their marriage ceremony; Rabbi Solomon B. Freehof, of K.A.M. Temple, and Rabbi Alvin Lux, of New Rochelle, N. Y., another nephew.
Besides Dr. Schanfarber, who is rabbi emeritus of K.A.M. Temple here, Mrs. Schanfarber is survived by Mrs. Augusta Halderman and Mrs. Bertha Rosenfield, sisters, and a brother, Ben Phillipson.
Following the funeral services burial was held at Mount Mayriv Cemetery.
