The future of Jewry throughout the world is “dark,” Rabbi Benjamin Schultz said in an address last night on the subject “The New Anti-Semitism and the Present Outlook.” He spoke at Congregation Alavath Sholom of Flatbush, Avenue R and East Sixteenth street.
“Fortunately or unfortunately,” Rabbi Schultz said, “Jews have been aligned with the liberal forces in most countries, but liberalism is on the decline everywhere, including the United States.
“Under the Fascist form of government such as seems likely everywhere at the moment, Jews would be in a most unfortunate position. Under a Communist form of government–the other alternative–the Jewish people would gradually disappear, even though the Jews themselves would be safe in body.
“Hitler persecution of the Jews is only an incident in the gradual progress of an overwhelming danger. The Jews can avoid it only by manifest courage and a strengthaning of their allegiance to liberalism.”
The lecture concluded a series of twelve by Rabbi Schultz. The congregation expressed its appreciation by presenting him with a bandsome radio last night. Seaman R. Kay presided.
