The United Galician Jews of america, at its second semi-annual convention, yesterday expressed gratitude to president Roosevelt and secretary of State Cordell Hull for the plan to aid emigration of refugees from Germany and Austria. The 575 delegates, representing 2,000 organizations and societies, adopted a resolution pledging support for the plan and for other methods of aiding the Galician Jews. The resolution pointed out that there were 30,000 Galician Jews in Austria.

Renewed indication of President Roosevelt’s sympathy for minorities was given in a message to Dr, Cecylja Klaften, Polish Jewish social worker, who was one of the principal speakers at the convention. “On the occasion of your visit here,” the President said, “I am glad to extend my cordial greetings. The work of establishing Jewish trade schools and of opening new avenues of life to a large section in Poland strikes a sympathetic note in the United States, as well as elsewhere.”
