Discuss at Length Polish Jewish Internal Affairs (Jewish Telegraphic Agency)
Satisfaction with the progress towards the extension of the Jewish Agency to include non-Zionists was expressed in a resolution adopted by the Zionist party council of Eastern Galicia in session here. Dr. Selig Brodetsky, English Zionist and member of the Zionist Executive, attended the session.
The council expressed its appreciation to the World Zionist Executive for its work concerning the Jewish Agency.
A great part of the sessions were devoted to a discussion of the internal Jewish situation in Poland, particularly to the rift within the Club of Jewish Deputies between Deputy Isaac Gruenbaum and Deputy Leon Reich. Deputy Reich in a detailed report emphasized the differences between his and Gruenbaum’s policies. The Galician Zionists, he stated, do not accuse the present Polish government of being anti-Semitic, but charge that it has not fulfilled the demands of the Jewish population. The fact of the matter is that the Jewish masses in Poland are in sympathy with the present government. “We do not propose to accept in toto the policy of the present government but we desire to keep in contact with it,” Deputy Reich stated.
Deputy Ringel defended the Gruenbaum point of view. By a majority vote a resolution of confidence in Deputy Reich was passed. The resolution expressed the wish that the Club of Jewish Deputies be kept intact, but that it reorganize its leadership in such a manner as to provide a praesidium of three instead of the office of president now held by Deputy Gruenbaum.
