Heinz Galinski, president of the West Berlin Jewish Community, was elected chairman of the Central Council of the Jews in Germany. He succeeds Carl Katz of Bremen.
The meeting of the Council at which the elections took place was held jointly with the executive committee of the Council’s Central Welfare Agency. The session formulated an integrated social welfare and relief program for West Germany as a whole, to be financed with the $450, 000 allotted by the Conference on Jewish Material Claims. It was resolved that the Central Welfare Agency will open branch offices in Berlin, Munich and Frankfurt, and at a later date move its main offices from Hamburg to Frankfurt.
