Open street fighting between the Haganah and the gun broke out in Tel Aviv today following the theft of two taxicabs by the exenists. Automatic weapons and smoke bombs were used.
Later, a group of Irgunists invaded the home of a Haganah leader, a middle-aged ## and beat him severely. Last night several clashes occurred during which shots are exchanged between members of the two factions. The Haganah asserts that the disdents attacked them when they prevented the posting of Irgun leaflets.
A Haganah spokesman told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that members of the organization are under orders not to use arms against the extremists except in self-de##se. He said that the most recent Zionist Actions Committee decision on terrorism ##ressed that the extremists should be fought with propaganda and other peaceful means.L.B. Gibson, Palestine attorney-general, has ordered a stay in proceedings in connection with the issuance of a warrant for the arrest of Capt. Roy A. Farran on a ?arge of having participated in the abduction and murder of 17-year-old Alexander bovitzt. In a letter to the attorney for the Rubovitz family, Gibson declared that are is insufficient direct evidence to try the army officer. Unless new evidence uncovered implication Farran, the stay in proceedings will in effect quash all ?tion against the former commando.
