With all of the 19,000 cloakmakers affected by the recent strike back at work, the International Ladies Garment Workers Union announced that it has received $95,000 in dues from new and former members in the last four days. That figure establishes a new record.
The next step of the union in its campaign to eliminate the sweatshop will be to invite heads of large department stores to participate in a conference at which an effort to obtain cooperation in abolishing sub-standard working conditions will be made.
The strike against non-union and sweatshop condition is being continued by 11,000 workers. The conference between Mayor Walker and Benjamin Schlesinger, president of the union, concerning sweatshop conditions, has been postponed until next week.
