Gay German activists called on the German government to recognize the thousands of gay victims of the Nazi regime by building a monument in the heart of Berlin. “We want a national monument similar to the Jewish monument,” a spokesman for the activists said. A plot the size of two football fields was dedicated in Berlin in January 2000 to house a national memorial to Jewish victims of the Holocaust, but work has been delayed by discussion over plans for an information center at the site.
