Lt. Gen. Odd Bull informed Secretary-General U Thant today that he had detached six more officers of his old truce supervision organization and posted them as cease-fire observers along the Suez Canal.
There are now seven observers on each side of the canal. Those on the Israeli side are based at Kantara and those on the Egyptian side are quartered in Ismailia. Both sides maintain radio communications with Gen. Bull’s headquarters in Government House. Jerusalem. The observers do not have direct contact with their counterparts across the canal.
In view of the Middle East crisis, the Secretary-General canceled today a planned visit to eight African states which was to have started July 31.
