Gen. Lusius D. Clay, American commander in Germany, last night promised to do his “best” to remove difficulties facing DP’s who wish to transfer their property when they emigrate from this country.
Speaking at a dinner honoring David Treger, chairman of the Jewish Central Committee of Germany, Gen. Clay reiterated that the American Army will remain in Germany as long as the DP’s. He added that the Army will protect and give justice to the DP’s.
In a short address Treger asked for American aid for the restitution program and criticized the German provincial governments for their attitude toward restitution. Prof. William Haber, advisor on Jewish affairs to Gen. Clay, today boarded a plane for the United States where he will address the annual meeting of the Joint Distribution Committee in Chicago this week-end.
