Brig. Gen. Yohanan Ratner, dean of the faculty of architecture of the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and head of the planning section of the Israel Defense Forces during the War of Independence, was laid to rest in the Haifa Military Cemetery today with full military honors. He died yesterday at the age of 73.
Born in Odessa, Russia, Gen. Ratner emigrated to Palestine in 1923 and Joined the faculty of the Technion three years later. He was chief of staff of Haganah, the Jewish community’s defense force before the establishment of the State and he served as a military attache at the Israel legation in Moscow in 1948 and 1949.
