General Motors said it hired a historian to investigate the company’s dealings with Nazi Germany. The move came after reports that the automobile giant’s German subsidiary profited from the use of slave labor during World War II. Meanwhile, the Bertelsmann publishing company hired Israeli historian Saul Friedlander to look into its relationship with wartime Germany.
