Closer ties between Israel and the Western Powers, particularly between Israel and the United States, is being advocated by the General Zionist Party of Israel, it was emphasized at a press conference here today by two leaders of the party who arrived in the United States this week.

The two delegates–Joseph Serlin and Major Shalom Zyeman–told the conference that Israel’s present crisis “is largely political and only temporary.” In a prepared statement they claimed that “with a change of government policy, Israel’s troubles would be resolved.” Mr. Serlin is a member of the Parliament and Mayor Zyeman is a member of the executive of the party.

“Israel is fundamentally stable,” the statement said. “But it cannot face up to its staggering obligations under a rule which hampers the exploitation of the ingenuity and capacity of the Jewish manufacturer.” The statement emphasized that the General Zionist Party urges more freedom for private enterprise, wider latitude for individual initiative and greater encouragement of capital investment.
