A “figment of the imagination” is the unofficial characterization here of the New York report that the British government has granted the Palestine Arabs’ demand for a legislative council. Dr. Drummond Shiels, British under-secretary for the colonies, representing his government before the Mandate Commission’s inquiry on Palestine said he was unaware of any legislative council.
It is pointed out here that even should such a council be under consideration the reported proportion of 34 Arabs and Christians to 6 Jews in the council is a preposterous proportion. In some quarters here the story is said to have emanated from Abdul Auni Bey, Arab leader, who may have expressed the idea of the council.
