Although the Mandates Commission of the League of Nations is now in session, the present occurrences in Palestine, which is governed by Great Britain under League mandate, will not be discussed. In accordance with the Commission’s procedure, a report on the situation from the Palestine government would be essential before any discussion of the situation takes place. The next ordinary meeting of the Commission at which discussion could be held, will be in June, 1934.
Private expression of members of the Commission indicate regret that although the Mandatory Power was aware of the tension existing in Palestine, it did not take a bold step in checking the demonstrations by temporarily taking its instigators into custody. By so doing, a number of members of the Commission feel, the government could have undoubtedly prevented the bloodshed ensuing when the authorities suppressed the demonstrations.
