George Backer, American Jewish leader, was today elected president of the World ORT Union at its first post-war conference here. He succeeds the late Dr. Leon Bramson. Judge Leon Meiss, president of the Central Representation of French Jews, was elected chairman of the central board of the organization.
Mr. Backer is also president of the American ORT Federation, largest affiliate of the World ORT Union. Other Americans elected to the world executive committee are Louis B. Boudin, Murray Levine and Julius Hochman.
