Dr. George S. Wise, chairman of the board of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency and lecturer on Latin American sociology at Columbia University, was elected president of the American Friends of the Hebrew University, it was announced here today. He succeeds Dr. Israel Wechsler who was elected honorary president. Joseph M. Mazer was elected chairman of the board.
Dr. Wise has served as a member of the board of the Jewish National Fund, the United Palestine Appeal, the United Jewish Appeal and the Weizmann Institute. He is chairman of the economic division of the Histadrut Professional and Business Council. He has been a director and officer of the American Friends of the Hebrew University since 1948, and a member of its board of governors sine 1949. He has received the highest honor Mexico awards to foreigners, the Aguilla Azteca, for his aid in the fight against illiteracy in that country.
