Georges Mandel, formerly Jewish Minister of the Interior in the French Popular Front government, is seriously ill in Fortress Portalet, where he is being kept prisoner by the Petain government, it is reported by the weekly, France, organ of the Free French movement.
Mandel’s condition is causing the gravest concern, although exact details of his ailment are lacking, the De Gaulle publication states. Special interest is attached to Mandel’s health because it is reported in Free French circles here that Mandel has had deposited in London documents of great historical interest bearing on the fall of France. He has requested that they be published only after his death.
