Gerald L.K. Smith, head of the America First Party, was forced to cancel a speaking engagement here when the hotel in which he was scheduled to address a group of “Republican Nationalists” was picketed.
The hotel management called the police who stopped the proposed meeting. When Smith and his followers attempted to hold a meeting in another hotel, the pickets followed them there. Several members of the America First group attacked the pickets and a fist fight ensued, after which the meeting was again cancelled.
