Gerhard Taussig, former director of the Dutch Jewish Social Welfare Board (JMW) died here yesterday at the age of 71. A Prague-born Czechoslovak who emigrated to Holland just before the outbreak of World War II, he served as assistant director of the JMW, and was the JMW’s director until his retirement.
Mr. Taussig was also immigration director for the American Joint Distribution Committee, was honorary secretary of the Jewish-Dutch Federation for Restitution Claims, and was a member of the Dutch Advisory Committee of the Claims Conference. He was a prolific writer and contributed articles on politics and social work to Jewish and non-Jewish periodicals and newspapers.
