German-American citizens here are planning a sharp protest against the remarks of former Alfred E. Smith of New York at the Madison Square Garden trial of “The Case of Civilization Against Hitlerism” last week.
According to Alfred Frosch, president of the German-American Political Club, some of the statements of the former presidential candidate were provocative and constituted an indictment of the German people. Frosch has frequently been attacked by pro-Nazi elements here because he has refused to aid the spread of Hitleristic propaganda.
An open declaration was made here yesterday that the American Union of Fascists has opened headquarters at 116 Hunterdon street. There was a demonstration at the opening, with leaders sporting khaki uniforms. Gaetano Asone has been named field commander for the city and state. He was active for Fascism in Italy before coming to this country eleven years ago.
