The German occupation authorities refuse to make public the names of Jews deported from Denmark, according to a report appearing in the Stockholm newspaper Dagens Nyheter. The newspaper gives Werner Best, German Minister to Denmark, as the source of the ruling.
Best has also announced that Danes deported by mistake will not be allowed to return home, the Dagens Nyheter adds, It is likely that the latter decision is motivated by the Nazis’ desire not to have reports concerning the fate of the deportees circulating within Denmark. Previously, the Germans had promised to return all deported Danes.
The newspaper Nya Dagligt Allehanda reports that an enterprising and ingenious Danish youth succeeded recently in removing all valuable property from a Copenhagen synagogue which is closely guarded by German police. Posing as a Nazi policeman the young Dane and six accomplices filled 43 boxes with holy books and synagogue regalia and even succeeded in requisitioning two trucks to carry away the synagogue property. By the time the Germans discovered that they had been hoaxed the boy and his helpers were gone.
