The German Supreme Court has ruled that officials dismissed as Nazi activists by the U.S. and British occupation authorities after the end of the war did not lose their civil service status, but must be considered as having been temporarily suspended.
The Nazi officials concerned were generally barred from government service for life by the Allied Military Government. Most of them are back in office now, but the new Supreme Court ruling means that they are entitled to seniority and pension rights even for the time between dismissal and reinstatement.
In Dortmund, a local court has ordered the city of Dortmund to pay former Nazi Mayor Dr. Pagenkopf his full pension, as well as all area’s back to 1949. During the Hitler regime, he held a high rank in the storm troops.
