The West German Federal Supreme Court ruled today that a Polish citizen who was an Auschwitz concentration camp inmate cannot register a claim for compensation from West Germany for forced labor as long as there is no peace treaty between West Germany and Poland. The court held that in the absence of such a treaty with stipulations for reparations, there was no basis for such claim.
The name of the claimant was not given. He had applied for compensation to recover medical expenditures, wages due for his forced labor and damages for reduction in his work capacity because of his treatment in the concentration camp.
