A German diplomat nominated by Bonn as its new Ambassador to Switzerland has come under heavy fire here as responsible for the deportation and death of thousands of Dutch Jews. The diplomat is Ernst Guntler Mohr, whose accreditation papers were received by the Swiss Foreign Ministry a few days ago. A Ministry spokesman said that the nomination has not yet been approved and that “we will conduct certain inquiries.”
The demand for Mohr’s rejection as “absolutely undesirable” was sparked by the National Zeitting of Basle, one of the most widely read and respected newspapers in the country. It charged that when Mohr was deputy chief of the German diplomatic mission in The Hague during the German occupation, he was responsible for the murder of thousands of Netherland Jews.
