Dr. Alexander Toerock, deputy chief of West Germany’s diplomatic mission to Israel voluntarily requested today that the Foreign Ministry undertake a “disciplinary procedure” against him, so that he can clear himself completely of charges that he had been a member of the Arrow Cross, the Hungarian Nazi Party, during the war.
Dr. Toerock came here yesterday to pursue his efforts to prove that the charges, made first in the Communist press in Budapest, then reprinted in Israel, are untrue. The spokesman for the Government announced Dr. Toerock’s request, saying that Dr. Toerock will return to his post in Israel soon, while the investigation is pressed here.
Dr. Toerock conferred with foreign Ministry officials today and repeated that he has proof that, during the war, he had held himself aloof from the Nazi regime, and that he had helped Jews during the war period. He was a Hungarian diplomat accredited to Hitler Berlin during the Nazi regime. He has since become a naturalized German citizen.
