German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer said he has been in touch with officials from the United States, Russia and the European Union as part of preparations for a meeting between Foreign Minister Shimon Peres and Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat that is expected to take place in Berlin. Peres confirmed that he plans to meet with Arafat to discuss a cease-fire, but would not say when or where.
