To mark the 100th anniversary of the death of Jewish-born German author and poet Heinrich Heine, West Germany will issue a special postage stamp, with Heine’s portrait. The main celebration is to be held, on February 17 in Heine’s native city of Duesseldorf. At the house where he was born, a memorial tablet will be unvaried to replace one that was removed during the Nazi era.
