Minister of the Interior Gerhard Schroeder reaffirmed, in a television broadcast here tonight, the Government’s determination to press “to the fullest” its probe as to whether the Deutsche Reichs Party can be banned under the Federal Constitution.
Referring to DPR chairman Otto Meinberg’s disassociation of the DPR from the Cologne synagogue-desecration incident. Dr. Schroeder said Meinberg’s statement was “an attempt to camouflage the true nature of the party.”
Since the two men arrested for the outrage at Cologne were members of the DPR, now officially expelled by the DPR, Dr. Schroeder stated: “We must investigate the background behind the two young men who were led to commit this horrible deed. But we shall also have to investigate whether we ourselves have failed through negligence.”
