An exchange of goodwill messages between the heads of state of West Germany and Israel took place for the first time last month on the occasion of Israel’s sixth Independence Day May 6, it was revealed here today.
The exchange, interpreted here as another step in the direction of establishing normal diplomatic relations between the two countries, was initiated by West German President Theodor Heuss who cabled Israel President Ben Zvi his “sincere good wishes for the welfare of Israel.” Mr. Ben Zvi replied, in French, thanking Prof. Heuss for his greetings.
