A German Jew, Herbert Bittner, 31, was in critical condition today after suffering a beating from unknown assailants, assumed to be Nazis. The police said they found a sign on the victim’s back declaring: “Let this be a lesson to all damned Jewish agents, so they will mind their own business. Heil Hitler.”
