“German Jewry is in acute distress. Famino and despair dwells in the houses of Jewish Rabbis, teachers and their dependents,” reads an appeal by Rabbi Dr. Auerbach addressed to Rabbi Dr. Ker Jung of the Jewish Center.
The appeal continues “You all know what loyal German Jews have done for the promotion of the Holy Torah, for the relief of Jewish suffering all over the world. Remember the teachers, the heralds and the pillars of our ideals. Do not forget the terrible plight of their widows and orphans. All you who knew German Jewry in her happier times, all who have benefited from their ideal congregational life, all those who directly or indirectly have received German educational assets-remember the distress of German Jewish professionals in these desperate times!”
