Celebrations in honor of Maimonides’ octocentenary are being held all over Germany by local Jewish communities, many of which are in possession of Maimonides’ manuscripts.
A large and valuable collection of the Rambam’s manuscripts was displayed by the Jewish community in Frankfurt-am-Main at an exhibition which opened today in the Rothschild Museum there.
The Berlin Jewish community held two Maimonides celebrations, the first in the Old Synagogue in the Heidereuther Gasse, and the second in the New Synagogue in the Oranienburgerstrasse.
SPAIN REPRESENTED
Dr. Alfred Klee, who represented the Berlin Jewish community at the Maimonides celebrations in Madrid and Cordoba, was one of the principal speakers at today’s celebration in the Oranienburgerstrasse Synagogue, at which a representative of the Spanish Embassy in Berlin was present.
Dr. Klee described the Maimonides celebrations he had attended in Madrid and Cordoba and emphasized the manner in which the Spanish government and the Spanish people paid honor to Maimonides and the Jewish representatives whom they had invited from all over the world to participate in the Maimonides octocentenary.
A Maimonides exhibition was also opened today in the Jewish Museum of the Berlin Jewish community. The exhibition includes a large number of old and valuable editions of the works of Maimonides, among them a copy of the “Mishneh Torah” of the thirteenth century.
