German Jews in Britain are still considered “enemy aliens,” it was indicated today in a statement made in the House of Commons by Minister of Home Security Herbert Morrison.
Graham White, Laborite, queried Morrison on whether the British Government recognised the German Government’s decree of November, 1941, depriving Jews who left Germany of their citizenship, and consequently whether the British Government recognized such Jews now in Britain to be “stateless.”
In reply, Merrison stated that while under German law such persons were considered permanent residents abroad, and deprived of German nationality, it would be contrary to public policy to recognise the power of an enemy state in war-time to relieve its nationals of any disability, liability or restriction imposed by British law on aliens of enemy nationality.
