A pledge to “fight anti-Semitism whenever it occurs,” was made here by Dr.Erich Ollenhauer, leader of the West German Social Democratic Party, addressing a meeting of the bureau of the Socialist International which is currently in session here.
Dr. Ollenhauer declared that German Socialists must condemn renewal of anti-Semitic incidents in Germany which he described as ”fortunately, isolated occurrences.” He asserted that the large majority of public “Opinion in Germany, led by Chancellor Konrad- Adenauer and German democrats is opposed to racial hatred and stressed that, for their part, Germany’s Social Democrats were determined to fight anti-Semitism whenever it occurred.
Dr. Ollenhauer spoke in reply to Dr S. Levenberg, representative of Poale Zion, who voiced appreciation of the stand taken by the Bonn authorities and by the Social Democratic Party but voiced concern over recent anti-Jewish developments that have taken place in Germany.
The Socialist group expressed warm appreciation of the assistance given to Asian aid African countries by the Israel labor movement. It voted to place the Middle East question on the agenda of the biennial conference of the Socialist International next July. On motion of the French Socialists, the bureau adopted a resolution of condolence on the death of Josef Sprinzak. Speaker of the Israeli Parliament.
