A leader of Chancellor Ludwig Erhard’s Christian Democratic Party said today that the Harriman mission to help West Germany resolve its difficulties with Israel has had a good effect on Germans, although the United States has failed to take responsibility for providing effective leadership for Western policy in the Near East.
Ernest Majonica, a foreign affairs expert of the party, told the American businessmen’s club here, that German authorities hope that Mr. Harriman will succeed in persuading Israel to accept the termination of German arms shipments. He voiced hope that Mr. Harriman will manage to get Israel to agree to a substitute deal.
