The Minister of Justice of Lower Saxony expressed the view today that there is an underground organization in Germany today which helps prevent the prosecution and punishment of Nazi war criminals.
Dr. Werner Hofmeister, the Minister, cited the escape from Germany of Hans Eisele, former concentration camp doctor, and Ludwig Zind, suspended school teacher convicted of public anti-Semitic statement. He suggested that the new Central Investigation Commission set up in Stuttgart by the Federal authorities to review Nazi crimes would have an active opposition in the underground group.
