Dr. Otto Baeutigam, Foreign Ministry official charged with complicity in the massacre of Jews by the Nazis, has been cleared and reinstated by Foreign Minister Heinrich von Brentano.

Herr von Brentano said that an investigation had revealed that while he was an official in Alfred Rosenberg’s Nazi Ministry for Occupied Eastern Europe Dr. Braeutigam attempted to “improve” the treatment received by Jews. Before his suspension two years ago, Dr.Braeutigam was head of the Ministry’s Eastern Division, but there were no indications here what position he would now occupy.
