The German Opera House, controlled by Josef Goebbels in his capacity as head of the Reich Culture Chamber, has been closed to Jews. Signs affixed to the walls of the lobby of the great building state: “Jewish patronage is not desired.”
Founded as the Charlottenburg Opera, a municipal institution, the theatre was taken over by the Nazis in the early days of the revolution. It is one of Berlin’s two largest opera houses. The other, the State Opera, is controlled by field Marshal Hermann Goering in his capacity as Minister of Prussia.
