The deadline for filing of claims under the German Federal Indemnification Law was today extended from Oct. 1, 1957 to April 1, 1958. A law approving this extension was unanimously passed by the Bundestag, the Lower House of the Wes German Parliament, and then ratified by the Bundesrat, the Upper House.
The Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany and many organizations of victims of Nazi persecution urged this extension in order to enable thousands of Nazi victims, principally those residing outside of Germany, to take advantage of their rights under the Federal Indemnification Law. Informed circles point to the fact that the deadline of April 1, 1958 must be considered as final and no further extensions are considered likely.
