The Free Democratic Party has asked the Rhineland-Pfalz provincial government to explain its failure to act against judges and prosecutors in this province who once served as members of Nazi courts.
It was pointed out that the Bavarian Government had already launched an inquiry into the former Nazi jurists, who were listed by an association of Nazi victims. The list contained the names of 13 former Nazi judges today prominent in the Rhineland-Pfalz juridical system.
The same association of Nazi victims has also pointed out that most of the perpetrators of “crystal night,” the night of Nov. 9-10, 1938, when storm troop gangs roamed German cities, towns and villages smashing Jewish homes, belongings and businesses and burning synagogues, are still unpunished. Citing specific trials, other procedures and “amnesties,” the association noted that most of the hoodlums who destroyed property and life that night have escaped scot free.
